While I got suggestions regarding teams as far back as 1922, I decided to cut it off at teams that people might have actually seen, dipping into the 1950s with a few but no earlier for this project. The input I've received from readers over the past few weeks has been tremendous. So it's there that we begin our latest historical perspective, looking at the greatest teams from that era at the Jersey Shore. Back then, point rankings determined sectional champions, sparking debate among fans and outrage from teams who often finished behind ones they beat. ![]() It was also an age before the NJSIAA playoffs were adopted in 1974. It was a time of tremendous growth in Monmouth and Ocean counties, with new rivalries forming as the level of play rose.
